Community foundations (CF) increase local involvement, improve lives and foster a culture of giving. The Philippines has quite a predicament facing its domestic philanthropy. There is a culture of bayanihan, of helping the community, but pervasive poverty keeps many from doing so. An innovative approach came in the form of Pondong Batangan, “community savings” that was funded entirely from small contributions by the community. (Read more [1])

A natural disaster, economic crunch, and they are pushed over the edge -- people are forced to see their homes, livelihoods, and jobs taken away, without being able to do anything about it. First Joint APPC and WINGS event in Asia held [1]
On 27 to 29 April, the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium hosted the first regional Peer Learning Event (PLE) of the Worldwide Initiative for Grantmakers’ Support. Held in Hong Kong, the two and a half day event was attended by 14 WINGS network participants from Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand. The hosting of the event is aligned with the objectives of APPC’s Corporate Philanthropy Program; that of convening leaders of organizations involved in corporate philanthropy in Asia Pacific to discuss issues and share ideas on how to do better philanthropy.
