This is the question that APPC will submit to conference participants on May 21 to 23, 2008 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The question serves as the conference theme and underlies the breadth of research information that has surfaced recently about how generous the Diaspora are giving back to countries of origin, in material terms as well as through knowledge transfers and volunteerism.
There is also evidence that disparate charitable giving by the Diaspora is shifting to more strategic giving that is sustained and directed to achieving social change. Analysis of this evidence will be made in the conference, aided by new country researches covering Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam. Initial action plans per country will be drawn up at the conference to find ways to provide the critical support for diaspora philanthropy.
The Conference will be held at the Melia Hanoi. For inquiries, please email conference@asiapacificphilanthropy.org [1].
