The Bridging Leadership framework discussed in this issue uses concepts from the “U” methodolody of listening, discovering and transforming processes in people. In Otto’s new book, he expounds on Theory U and describes the “blind spot, that inner place from which we operate that we must come to understand in order to bring forth the profound systemic changes so needed in business and society today.” by the Monitor Institute and Global Business Network, 2005 Developments and trends shaping US philanthropic practices are defined and discussed, as seen from a four year inquiry of the work of foundations and other players.. Findings may be relevant to grantmakers and philanthropic support organizations even outside the US. Specifically, the project included an exercise on Imagining the Future of Philanthropy: Looking Back from 2025. The exercise produced write-ups in the Alliance Magazine, December 2005 issue, contributed by India and the Philippines –for Asia, as well as write ups from Brazil, Central Europe, East Africa, Mexico, Russia and the USA. The book explains what is ‘brokering’ as a facilitative leadership role, with a focus on community foundations as enablers of philanthropy.
May 21 to 23, 2008 - APPC will stage its 4th biannual conference in Hanoi, Vietnam. The theme is, Diaspora Philanthropy: An Agent of Change in Asia Pacific Communities? Participants from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam will explore this issue together with diaspora philanthropic support organizations from Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, the US and European countries.
