Engaging media: A call to action

For this main story, we interviewed Ms. Erna Witoelar, former UN Special Ambassador for the MDGs in Asia Pacific, and APPC Chair. As Erna shared her thoughts about media and philanthropy, she also made a call to action about what the philanthropic movement must do to see more and better media coverage to encourage philanthropy. Media foundations and partnerships: some examples

In Asia, China’s state-run media network, CCTV’s round-the-clock coverage of the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan province led to an outpouring of donations and the distribution of aid to millions of families. (Read more)

Supporting database development for greater Diaspora giving

In countries where Diaspora giving has reached significant levels, givers are in search of more reliable information that can serve to link them up to their preferred causes more efficiently and effectively. This need was identified during the APPC conference on diaspora philanthropy held in Hanoi last May, 2008. As a follow up to the conference, the APPC Board has approved four grants to support various organizations in Bangladesh, China, Pakistan and the Philippines. (Read more)
